During a one-day excursion in Gran Canaria (known as a little continent), we will visit the north part of the island, which is quite different from the south part where RADECS 2024 will take place. This day trip is a unique opportunity to get to know Gran Canaria island, its pre- and post-hispanic history.

  • Time: 9:15–18:00 (Sunday, 15th September)
  • Meeting point: ExpoMeloneras, Main entrance
  • Transportation: Bus transport from ExpoMeloneras
  • Maximum capacity: 58 people
  • Price: 60 € / person
  • Accessibility: Accessible transport must be organized individually. Some areas may not be fully accessible (due to dirt, gravel and cobblestone). At Hacienda la Rekompensa (Banana Museum) only a central area is accessible (including WC).


Program:

  • 09:15 – Departure from the meeting Point at ExpoMeloneras (Main entrance).
  • 10:30 – Visit of the beautiful historic quarter of Vegueta in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the island’s capital city, founded in 1478. Guided tour through the streets of the first overseas city of the Spanish Empire, from where Christopher Columbus set off on his voyages to the New World.
  • 12:00 – Departure to the Hacienda la Rekompensa.
  • 12:15 – Visit of the Hacienda la Rekompensa Banana Museum (45 minutes).
  • 13:00Brunch* at Hacienda la Rekompensa (Spanish omelet, Chorizo snacks, Canarian cheeses, banana marmalade and banana liqueur).
  • 13:30 – Departure to Gáldar, the ancient capital of Gran Canaria.
  • 13:45 – Visit of Gáldar, where attendees will be divided in two groups (depending on the number of attendees). Walk through the historic centre of Gáldar: the “Iglesia Matriz de Santiago de Los Caballeros” with final destination of the Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria (Main Gáldar Church, Way of St. James), and visit of the Cueva Pintada Museum and Archaeological Park, to learn about the aboriginal culture of the first inhabitants of the island: The Canary people.
  • 17:00 – Departure back to ExpoMeloneras.
  • 18:00 – Arrival at ExpoMeloneras (Main entrance).

* Allergens: It contains egg, gluten, milk and peanut. If you are allergic to any of these, we kindly recommend to bring your own food (which is allowed at Hacienda la Rekompensa for allergic attendees). Since they use only local ingredients, they are not able to change the menu (only gluten-free options could be provided).
